Adaptive planning
An adaptive plan connects possible future conditions to decision points and actions. Start with measures that are useful across futures, preserve later options and monitor indicators that distinguish between pathways.
Translate the principle
- State the uncertainty that can change the decision.
- Identify the indicator that will reveal which future is emerging.
- Set thresholds early enough to allow delivery.
- Review whether the alternative pathway remains practical and affordable.
