A utility reference
PUB describes Singapore’s Four National Taps as local catchment water, imported water, NEWater and desalinated water. This offers a clear example of a portfolio approach. It does not mean that the same mix is appropriate everywhere.
The planning lens
Evaluate sources by their reliability, quality, energy needs and common dependencies. A portfolio is not resilient merely because it contains several asset types. Check whether drought, power interruption or treatment failure could affect multiple sources at once.
Questions for transfer
- What is the local demand profile and practical scope for conservation?
- How will a new source connect to treatment, storage and distribution?
- Which environmental, public-health and community requirements apply?
- What operating capability is needed throughout the asset’s life?
Continue the comparison
The Greater Sydney strategy summary provides another source-diversification context. Compare decision principles and constraints rather than importing one city’s asset portfolio.
